About Us

The Friends of Abberd Brook was established at the beginning of 2010, as a direct result of two of its members attending a Calne Area Board meeting in August 2009. At that meeting the issue of the neglected state of Abberd Brook was raised. This concern was taken up by the Wiltshire Councillors and a Task Group set up to identify in detail some of the problems and the best way to overcome them.

Working with the local Councillors, Westlea Housing and the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust it was decided that the best way forward was for a local residents group to take on the work. This resulted in the Friends of Abberd Brook being established with a constitution being drafted and terms of reference formally acknowledged in March 2010.

Over a period of time, the volunteers obtained funding from both Town and County Councils, Westlea Housing, Community First, Calne Community Area Partnership and Coleman's Farm Community Centre, to assist in projects relating to the brook and involving the community wherever possible.
